I DIDNT COME FOR THE DANCE
"I Didn't Come For The Dance" is one of those songs that I wrote just for the joy of the whole writing process. I had this "hook" in my head and really just fell in love with the whole "idea" of the song.
I think originally I always pictured this tune to have a real Country flare to it... but after working with Zeljka and his amazing trumpet on Julia I began to hear it with more of a Latin feel. In the studio I began working with co-producer and guitarist Glen Teeple to flesh it out with the nylon strings and perhaps make it into a trumpet/guitar duet... but once I heard the part that Glen put down I fell in love with is "as is" and decided to not mess with a good thing.
Disclaimer - OK... you would think that this would be an obvious statement, but I think I need to include it anyway. I in no way, shape or form support violence in a relationship... seriously... not good. What I think this song really embraces are those moments in life where we just get tired of "talking" and "working it out" and instead just need to shout. Is it a good idea or the right way to handle things? Um... probably not. Is it human nature? Definitely...
I DIDN'T COME FOR THE DANCE
Words & Music by Michael Bannerman
Don’t try to talk to me like there’s nothing wrong
Don’t try to look at me like there’s nothing going on
Cause you know better…
You must know so much better than that
You know better
You must know so much better than that…
Don’t try to lie to me and say “everything’s alright”
Don’t try to hide from me I know where you were last night
And you know better
You must know so much better than that
You know better
You must know so much better than that
I’m not here to talk about it
I don’t want to go on about it
I don’t care if we ever get things right…
I didn’t come here for the dance…
I came for the fight
Don’t start your cryin girl ‘cause I don’t need your tears
Please don’t apologize… It’s not what I want to hear
Cause you know better
You must know so much better than that
You know better
You must know so much better than that
I’m not here to talk about it
I don’t want to…. About it
I don’t care if we ever get things right
I didn’t come here for the dance
I came for the fight

All is fair in love and war
All is fair in love and war
All is fair in love and war
In Love… Love and war
